Privacy Policy

This privacy policy discloses the privacy practices for the website mlouisalocke.com. This privacy policy applies solely to information collected by this website. It will notify you of the following:

  1. What personally identifiable information is collected from you through the website, how it is used and with whom it may be shared.
  2. What choices are available to you regarding the use of your data.
  3. The security procedures in place to protect the misuse of your information.
  4. How you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.

Information Collection, Use, and Sharing

I don’t collect or keep anything other than your email address and whatever you voluntarily provide. I will never sell or rent this information to anyone. I don’t share it for free either.

I will use your information to respond to you, if you ask for a response. I will not share your information with any third party.

I would never contact you out of the blue just because you visited my site. If you subscribe to my newsletter you can expect a newsletter when I have a new publication or promotion. If you subscribe to my blog feed, you’ll receive a post at most once or twice a month.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter or the blog very easily at any time, using the usual methods. There’s an unsubscribe link in every newsletter and on the right side of the website, you have a manage link under You Are Following This Blog that permits you to unsubscribe, or if you are using an RSS reader there will be instructions on how to unfollow this blog.

Here’s what gets collected where:

  1. Newsletter: You supply your email address, which I keep.  I manage my newsletter through MailChimp, so your information is stored at that site also.
  2. Blog: You supply your email address, which I keep.
  3. Blog comments: If you choose to comment and provide your name and email address, I myself don’t use this information for anything, especially not to harvest email addresses.
  4. Contact: If you send an email, I would only use that email to respond to you.

Sharing information

I don’t sell anything from my website or via my newsletter, so I don’t collect anything more sensitive than your email address, which you give voluntarily. There’s no place for you to log in, so no passwords are collected. If you want to buy one of my books, you can follow a link to a bookstore. Nothing about that link-following is recorded here.

I don’t share any information with anybody. I don’t have any ads on my site.

Third party cookies

My site links to many bookstores, like Amazon and Kobo. Some of these sites may create a cookie telling them where you came from. I don’t create it or keep that information, but it could be created on your computer as a result of your clicking that link at my site. Clear as mud? Think of it as a trail of breadcrumbs, tracking your path through the internet. I don’t care how you found me, but big outfits often do care, so they keep track.

Similarly, I have buttons to go to my social media sites, like Facebook. I don’t track your use of these buttons, but Facebook, Twitter, etc. might create a cookie saying that you got there via my website.

What’s a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.

You can control or delete cookies as you wish – for details, see aboutcookies.org. You can delete all the cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit a site and some services and functionalities may not work. Visit your browser’s help information to find out how to do that.

This website contains links to other sites, like online bookstores. Please be aware that I am not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any other site. I encourage users to notice when they leave mlouisalocke.com and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personal information.
